Anna and I have been experiencing a bit of cabin fever lately. And, I think she's been feeling a bit sad about the move and leaving all her friends. So she and I decided we should have a girl's night out. We dressed up and hit the town. Really, we just went to dinner at Mimi's Cafe. It's brand new and was a nice little place.
So, here's the embarrassing part... try to follow me here. They gave me four menus and Anna a children's menu, so we had five altogether. Anna decided right away what she wanted, but I really took a moment to read all the choices. I noticed in one box on one menu that they had a few of their entrees also listed in the "just enough" section. These entrees are smaller portions of the regular menu items. So, when it came to order, I ordered the chicken parmigiana (but never ever said from the "just enough section"-- in fact, my entree wasn't even listed in the "just enough" section. I also ordered a side Caesar salad (yes, I know, not the most nutritious, low fat dining experience). So, when I got my food, it was a small bowl of vegetables and chicken. Well, let me tell you, I really don't care for vegetables -- I mean broccoli and squash and stuff like that they serve in nicer places. So, I was quick to point out my order must have been misplaced.
The server that delivered the meal (not our regular server) suggested that maybe I didn't understand what I had ordered. I quickly pointed out that I ordered the chicken parmigiana and it doesn't look like this and I ordered a Caesar on the side. He left abruptly and came right back with a side of Caesar dressing... Really? What am supposed to do with that b/c at that point I didn't have a salad either. I explained again what I had ordered and he said he'd check with the kitchen... Sure enough, he came right back and explained the kitchen had made a mistake and my dish would be right out. With him, he brought lettuce and croutons, because, he explained I already had the side of Caesar.
So, then the manager came by and apologized and our server came next to apologize... Finally, my food got to the table... a little bowl of spaghetti with a chicken breast on top. The "just enough" portion of the chicken parmigiana. It looked great and tasted great, but when should I tell them that I didn't order the smaller portion, dog gone it. I wanted the regular-sized one... Oh well, that would be the icing on the cake-- "Bigger momma, gets order wrong, wants bigger meal." Nah, isn't going to happen...
But, the main story is that Anna and I got to have some great 'girl' time tonight and I really hope we connected on some level. I miss my little sweet girl. Right now, our time together is stressed and confused. We'll get on the right track soon I'm sure... Tonight was just the beginning...
Love,
Becky
