From the Backseat

Anna is at Art Camp this week from 9-12p. She's really enjoying it so far (only day 2) and she's upset with me for not signing her up to stay for the whole day as some kids get to do.

And of course, Owen wants something to do too while big sister is at camp. Yesterday was a no brainer because we had story time at the Clive Library. We dropped Anna off and then went and had eggs and sausage at McDonald's then over to the library. That little library is super fun b/c they have a wonderful children's area and the storytime is just for his age group and the max amount of kids must be around 10 b/c there are never really too many there - just perfect for Owen.

Well yesterday when we dropped Anna off, Owen saw the playground at the school where the art camp was located. There were a lot of big kids and we had story time so we didn't get to stay and play. Today I told him we could go find a park and play but we needed to find a different park b/c of all the 'bigger' kids.

I must say that Anna's camp is down about mid-way to downtown so we're out of our element when it comes to finding a park. I could have driven him back to our neighborhood b/c we have a lot of great parks, but it's always fun to find a new one...

So, we're driving down a decently busy street and Owen spots a park at a school - "THERE, THERE MOMMY! Park, Park Mommy!" I had another park in mind so I didn't think driving a little further to find the other park would be so terrible... "TURN CAR MOMMY! TURN CAR!" And yes, I'm using all caps because he was yelling at me.

I told him that there was another park that was a park, park and not a school park. Just be patient... we'll be there soon! "NO MOMMY - TURN CAR! MOOMMMYYY!" That kid can sound desperate for sure.

Finally I saw the other park from the road but couldn't tell how to get there exactly. I show him the park and he gets excited again. "Park, Mommy! Park, Mommy!" I tell him that we need to find the road that will get us to the park.

So now, this is what I heard - over and over and over and over and over - "Find it? Find it? Find it?" - with barely a breath in between. Finally, I said ssshhh... We'll be there soon... So what does Owen do?

"Oh... Find it?" in the softest whisper you've ever heard... over and over and over....
