Owen's Preschool 'Visitation' Day

As most of you know, I'm trying to keep Anna and Owen on the same 'school' schedule. For example, when Anna was exactly this age, I enrolled her in a "Mother's Day Out" program. It was called Discovery Days and met at a church in downtown Lawrence. It was one morning a week, on Wednesdays from 9-11:30p. The next year, she went to two mornings a week at the Giving Tree and then the next year, three mornings a week at the Giving Tree. When we moved here, we found out that most pre-kindergarten preschools (preschool year right before kindergarten), most kids go four mornings or afternoons a week. So, when we got her in one here, that's what she did, four afternoons.

Well, when I started looking for similar "Mother's Day Out" programs here, I found out most MDOs have one morning/wk for younger kids 18mo-2y and then two mornings/wk for older two's 2-3y. So, when I called the places, I could't find one that would allow Owen to just go one morning a week. At this age it's all about getting some social skills and learning numbers and colors. It was learning through play for Anna and that's what I was looking for for Owen. So, I certainly didn't think we'd need two mornings/wk.

Finally, a new friend of mine suggested Faith Lutheran Church's "Seeds Of Faith" preschool where they had a one morning a week preschool class. I don't know why but that fact that it's a preschool rather than "Mother's Day Out" is freaking me out a bit. I don't want him preschool - I want him in an MDO. But, it's all symantics. He will be learning the same things. I just wasn't ready for my baby to start preschool. So, this year is preschoola nd next year will be "BIG boy preschool." That's what I've decided. :)

Starting when we return from Disney, Owen will be attending on Tuesdays from 9:15-11 (not even two hours). He's in the" Blue Horse" room with 10 little friends.

Today, he was a little hesitant to go in, but he ended up loving all the toys and really seemed to like his new teacher, Mrs. V. (Mrs. Vacura). He especially liked the Play-Doh and the fact that his teacher brings her guitar to sing to them every day. They also have an assitant teacher, Mrs Peterson (a.k.a. Mrs. P) and a parent volunteer.

I have to point out that Owen NEVER gets his picture taken with people he doesn't know. I thought it was an awesome testiment that he took it with his new teacher after he'd only known her for 30 minutes. This IS saying something for sure!
