Well, Owen has had a time of it the past two weeks. He lost his left top tooth during our spring break trip to Kansas. When he lost it, his other top tooth was loose, but not too bad... A few days later, though, I noticed a bump above that other top tooth. It wasn't hard like his permanent tooth coming in, so I was a little worried. And, his tooth wasn't as wiggly. Since we were in Kansas I couldn't get him back in time to see his dentist before the weekend.
During the weekend, though, the bump went away and his tooth was more wiggly. I thought we were safe. However, last night, it came back bigger than before. He said it didn't hurt, but it just didn't look right. I called his dentist this morning and they got him in.
They took him back and took an X-ray where they confirmed it was an abscess full of yucky bacteria. They told me they didn't want it to burst and have the bacteria get into his blood stream, so they would need to pull the baby tooth. It was already a little loose, so they said they would just wiggle it out while he had a little "happy gas." So, I signed a paper (ugh - sometimes it's really hard being the mom) and while he had the "happy gas" and watched a cartoon, they pulled it. The dentist came out and told me he was a champ and doing well. He also told me that this type of thing rarely happens with a baby tooth. Well, that's Owen, unique.
As we were standing there, Owen came out and I told him we would go home and rest. He threw a fit through his gauze saying that he wanted to go to school. The dentist said he could if he felt up to it. So, about an hour after having his tooth pulled, he went into school and showed off his new "gap." I was worried about him the whole time. But he was fine.
Owen is such a brave little guy and I was so proud of him today.
