A Memory Maker for Sure!!

It's been raining ALOT here.  And I mean ALOT.  I think we're over 8 inches and the rivers and creeks are really high.  With that in mind, Owen and I decided we were going to pack up our bikes in the truck, drive to Raccoon River Park and ride the 3 1/2 miles around it.  We wanted to see how high  Raccoon River and the Des Moines River have gotten.

I told Owen early on to make sure and ride a steady pace because if he rode too fast, he would run out of steam.  About a mile and half into it, I got to looking at him on his bike and realized he was getting a little too big for his "Cars" bike.  I mentioned it to him and he said that yeah, he'd like a bigger bike.

Around mile 2 3/4, we get to the playground and he wanted to stop and play.  So, we did.  And, to make things a little more fun, we ran into a school friend of his and they played around while I talked to the mom.  She kept asking if it was going to rain, but I had my sunglasses on and it wasn't supposed to rain, so I didn't think much of it.  Well.... awhile later I happened to look out west and sure enough it was dark. Owen and I hopped on our bikes and took off.  Well, we got another 1/4 mile or so and his darn bike stopped working.  We had to pull over, check the chain, and check what we could, but couldn't find the issue.  If you pushed really hard on the pedals, it would move but only a little bit.  Wouldn't you know, though, that's when it started to RAIN! Agh!! So, Owen and I ran his bike (and mine) 1/4 mile back to the truck.  We were drenched by the time we got there.

As we started driving home in the rain, with our bikes in the back, it started POURING.  Owen just started laughing and saying what a great day it had been and what a great memory it would be for him.  I LOVE his positive attitude!

Have a great night!
Becky
