Anna's Big Fall

Okay... I don't know exactly where to start because I have something really neat to say about Anna and then I have some sad news about Anna. What to post first? Anna's good news, or Anna's bad news? Let's go with the bad news first, so then the end is happy and that will be good in the end! --- Please read the end, though, because it's something neat about Anna!!

Yesterday, while we were hanging out waiting for our super great friend, Kelly Jo, to arrive for our weekend fun, we took the kids to the park. Anna, Owen and I had been going a lot this week because the weather has been fabulous. Anna, of course, had a ton of new things she wanted to show Dan. He just started following her around from play thing to play thing. I knew that she had been practicing the monkey bars and really wanted to show him her progress that she had made. So, when they made it over to them, I stood camera in hand to take a picture. Well, right before she got up to show Dan, an older girl swung on the monkey bars from a higher step to get herself started. Anna, at the last minute, decided to try it too (probably to show off a bit). Unfortunately, her hands were sweaty and she slipped and fell really hard on the ground (from a pretty high up). She landed mostly on her back and behind, but some on her arm/wrist. Anna was pretty hurt and cried and cried and cried. I felt really bad because as most of you know, during this initial cry period, it's hard to figure out how hurt your kids really are. And, no offense to Anna, but she can be a bit dramatic at times. So, I really didn't know what to do. I didn't know if she had broken her arm or wrist or if she was just so scared and upset that she was carrying on worse than normal. We took her home (still crying) and put ice on her wrist/arm and had her lay down. She finally stopped crying and said she didn't want to go to the doctor, but it still hurt really, really bad. Then, I noticed her fingers were turning a mild black and blue and swelling. I called the doctor's office and we talked about it a long time and decided that we should wait things out and see how she was taking it today. Luckily, she felt a little better this morning and even better this afternoon - thank goodness. She can use it a bit now, but the swelling is completely gone and I feel completely confident that she didn't break it - maybe a small sprain. Sad, sad time...

So, the good news is that Kelly Jo came to town to visit and she wanted to go see the new Hannah Montana movie with Anna and I. I told Anna on Thursday that she had to be really good and helpful Thursday and Friday in order to get to go to the movie today. Two days is a really long time to be good, you know. She really made me proud. She consistently played with Owen and she followed directions the first time they were given. She helped me pick up and she helped me dust. She even helped me clean the floors. She used her pleases and thank yous. Seriously, she is the best. I know that I'm probably jinxing my tomorrow, but I'm so proud of my little girl for being such a great daughter. I just wanted to let you all know... So proud. And, I'm so glad that we didn't have to go get an x-rays and a cast and that she got to enjoy a little bit of girl time with KJ and her mom...
And, by the way, she wanted me to put this picture in the blog. I wasn't going to initially. Remember, I was standing there ready to take a picture of her swinging on the monkey bars. I didn't realize as I snapped the picture, it would be one of her falling. Sad... sad...

Missing everyone tonight!

That's pretty crazy that you got a picture of it! Glad to hear that she is doing well. I told both boys about it and they were very worried. Then after they heard that she was doing fine, they thought it was pretty exciting that she has a cast!
