One year ago today, that huge moving truck pulled up in front of our new house in West Des Moines, IA. Even though we had lived in temporary housing since February 1st. This was it. This was our permanent move into a house. I remember all of those fears of this move to another state, away from family, friends, support, of all that we knew. And here we are, LOVING it!
Yes, we miss our wonderful KS friends and family. We miss the fun little things that we used to do in Lawrence and KC. We miss our old house and pool (well, just the fun we had in the pool - not the maintenance). We miss our old church and small group. We miss the Giving Tree Preschool (yes, we do!). We miss the beautiful KU campus and Clinton Lake. We miss the familiarity of "home."
But, we do truly love all that West Des Moines and the metro area have to offer. We are so close to so many wonderful opportunities here. There are I-cubs games, Science Center, Zoo, Living History Farms (my favorite), three huge pools that we can swim in with our summer pass (and more if we want to pay the entrance fee), Adventureland theme park, all the theaters, concert halls and arenas, oh and we can't forget the IA State Fair, the YMCAs, all the bike/running trails, lakes, beautiful downtown, farmer's market, fresh IA corn, shopping, restaurants, Anna's school --- but most of all the super nice people that have opened their hearts and lives to our family.
Love,
Becky
Ps. We LOVE visitors!!
