Finally, I Learned Something About First Grade

When Anna gets home from school every day, I always ask, "What did you do today?" or "How was your day?" I often ask, "What did you write about in writing?" or "Who did you play with at recess?" I struggle though, to get much more than, "nothing much," "good" or "lots of kids" from her. So I finally got a plan. I told her when she got home from school that I would either paint her fingernails or toenails. She was super happy because we haven't had the time lately to do that. But, I told her, there's a catch. For every nail I paint, you have to tell me ONE thing about your day at school. It turned out to be a great idea and even after her ten thoughts, she kept going. Then, we read books and did a puzzle. Soon after, it was time for her to go to her dance and tumbling classes.

As she got in bed, she said that she really had a good day. She even said that she would like to stay home tomorrow after school to play with me instead of going to play with friends. Now, that was a compliment, a huge one! A happy mommy heart for sure!
