Potty Training Part 1

So, I told Owen a week or so ago that the box of diapers I was buying that day was going to be the last. Hmph...Well, yesterday we went to the store because we were almost out of diapers. We have been talking to him about pottying on the potty. We've promised him a scooter if he goes number two on the potty 5x. We've talked to him about all of his friends that go on the potty and how next year he can't go to school if he doesn't potty on the potty. Most times, he empatically says no. "I don't want to go on the potty," he says. His pediatrician assured us that this is common and not to worry about him. He'll use the potty when he's ready. However, the last couple of days we felt like maybe we were getting through to him - and when we were at the store he saw on the diaper there were pictures of babies and on Pull-ups there were "big boys." So, he told me to put back the diapers and get the Pull-ups. He was ready to use the potty - Whoo Hoo!!

This morning started off well, he took a shower (his choice - doesn't happen often!) and got those Pull-ups on. We went to tumbling, and tried to go on the potty - nope couldn't go. But, once got to the Library, he had pottied in the Pull-ups. Tried again at the Library to go, but again, didn't need to. Got home, had gone in the Pull-ups. Changed the Pull-ups, tried to go before nap - didn't need to go - pooped in Pull-ups. This is how it went all day....

So, tonight, he's in a diaper. I certainly didn't want to go back to them, but let's face it, he only wants the scooter and right now, doesn't want it bad enough. We'll wait until after the holidays and try again. But next time, we'll never go back to diapers. I want to make sure of that!

Ah, Becks... we are in the same boat. Mr. Finn says going potty is "boring." BUT he does it all day for his Miss. Rita! Serious battle of wills going on at our house. Wade and I joked just this morning about how easy Cecilia was to potty train. Must be a second child boy thing!
