She started by having a friend stay the night last night. Her and her friend had a softball game last night, so then she came over to play and for a sleepover after that. They ended the night by watching a movie. So she was awake when she turned 7 1/2.
We got up early, had Anna's favorite donuts and went to her favorite place here in Des Moines - Living History Farms. I'm sure you've all heard of it by now! Today was the first day they were open and they had some special activities for members and volunteers (we're members).
A couple of the activties were petting goslings, ducks and chicks, riding in a Model T car, homemade cinnamon rolls, making clay pots, playing early 1900 baseball, and just a few other things.
After that, we had softball pictures and ate at Chipotle (Anna's pick). The weather was so nice, we even got to eat outside.
The rest of her day was spent outside playing with friends in this beautiful weather - can't beat that for your half birthday!
Here are some neat and fun things about Anna - as she turns 7 1/2...
Anna's Acitivities this school year:
*Piano - She started in September - she is learning notes, positions, timing, and is already playing multiple notes with two hands - she's doing really well!
*Hip-Hop - She takes Hip-Hop every Monday night and LOVES it!
*Tumbling - She also takes Tumbling on Mondays - it's right after Hip-Hop and she is doing really well in her class. She's trying to perfect her round offs, including her one handed round-offs. She's also learning front flips on the tumble track. She loves tumbling this year. Every other year, she's done gymnastics, but this year she was really nervous on the bars so asked if she could do tumbling instead (no bars or balance beam).
*Daisies - She started Daisies in January and LOVES it! This is her first year. She even sold the most cookies in her troop. She'll move on to Brownies next year because this is a favorite.
*Heartland Club - This is an afternoon Christian based club that meets at Anna's school two Tuesdays a month during the spring semester.
*WOW (Worship on Wednesdays) and Choir: She joined the youth choir at church this past spring and has really enjoyed it. Along with that, she goes to WOW too! It's like a weeknight Sunday school class.
*Yoga: She takes this free, kids only, yoga class on Saturday mornings at the YMCA if we're there.
*Swimming lessons: She only takes one five week session of winter lessons, but she was truly excited this year as they really concentrated on diving. She's going to have a ball at the pool this summer because she's finally tall enough (49" now) to ride the slides and can dive off the boards!
*Book club: Our library has a youth bookclub that meets every other week. Each six week session concentrates on different styles/types of stories. Last session it was mysteries and this one is Folktales. She really enjoys it, but I'm sad to say she doesn't make it too often.
*Softball: LOVES it!! Her favorite positions are pitcher and first base (just like her mom!!).
-- I know it might seem like she's involved in a lot of activities, but many only meet once a month for part of the year or once in a while. She has plenty of at-home time, homework time, friend time, and down time. Most of the above activities ended in March or April... Although, she'll take piano all year.
