Today was just one of 'those' days. We were all really busy. It started with Owen and Anna at school and me volunteering at Anna's school. After volunteering, I went to pick up Owen and his teacher, Mrs. Walsh, asked me to wait because she wanted to 'talk' to me. Uh oh.
So, I waited patiently for the rest of the class to leave and she preceded to tell me that when they had a bathroom break, Owen and his two boy buddies ran to the bathroom while being really loud. Two problems - running and being loud. So, she asked the boys to go back down the hall and try again. Owen refused. WHAT? My little angel, my precious boy, super cute, O-man, refused? Are you kidding me? Not only did he refuse, he threw a fit. Really?
She kept going. Yep, that wasn't it. A bit later after circle time, they go wash hands to prepare for snack. He refused again. He went into the corner and not only did he throw a fit, he cried too! WHAT? Are you kidding? She actually told me that they felt his forehead to see if he was feverish because it was soooo out of character. Yeah, no fever.
Of course, Owen and I had a talk and he did own up to all of it after we went over it a few times. He told me he was mad during the bathroom break. He also told me he didn't like the snack and so didn't think he needed to wash his hands if he wasn't going to eat. Okay, that holds a little merit, but not much.
We had to have a long talk about listening to the teacher and following directions. We talked about washing our hands, but if you don't like the snack, just say no thank you. I hope it sank in. We have NEVER had a 'talk' with one of Anna's teachers about issues in the classroom. EVER! So, it's new territory and I pray we say and do the right things to him.
On a VERY happy note - we went to Anna's conferences tonight and she is doing extremely well in school. Honestly, we couldn't be prouder of her. She loves all her subjects, especially Math.
Right after her conferences, we went over to church for her First Communion classes. Yes, you heard right, Anna is taking classes for her First Communion. She told us during the Christmas season that her "heart was ready" to take the classes in preparation for it. Parents were invited to go too, so Dan and I went to support her. She had a class tonight and one more next week. During Maundy Thursday services, she will take her First Communion... Again, we are so proud...
Although we definitely have had some ups and downs today, we are so proud of each of our kiddos. And I hope they know without a doubt that every day and always we love them...
